Xbox hasn’t shied away from this potential future, as their XCloud service already lets you stream multiple games straight to your device.

Much like streaming a movie or TV show, streaming games allow you to play a game on your device over the internet instead of having to download anything.

As games grow exponentially, game companies are gravitating toward a potential solution to save gamers from buying huge hard drives.

Rumors surfaced in May that Xbox might release a Stadia-like device that will only host cloud games, but very little is known about it.

That all changed on Monday, however, as we may have glimpsed a prototype of the device.

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, tweeted a picture a shelf in his office with Fallout’s iconic Vault Boy on it to celebrate the series’ 25th anniversary.

In the middle of the top shelf, however, fans spotted something suspicious. There was what appeared to be a very small Xbox console.

Speculation was immediately rife, with the consensus being that this could be an early version or prototype of the aforementioned cloud gaming device.

Spencer hasn’t commented on the speculation, but the official Xbox Twitter account left her boss with a cheeky response.

They tweeted, “Well, what did we say about putting old prototypes on your shelf, boss?”.

It is unclear whether this is just an attempt at damage limitation or targeted social media marketing.

Even though the model is an old prototype, it tells us a lot about the future of a potential Xbox cloud console.

If the boss is proud enough to put it on his shelf, then there are certainly newer prototypes, maybe even one that’s about to be unveiled.

The May rumors suggested the console would be available within 12 months, so it shouldn’t be too long before we find out the truth.
