The younger brother of a pink-haired girl shot dead with her parents in Ukraine has died

The younger brother of a pink-haired schoolgirl who died with her parents after being shot dead near Kyiv, Ukraine, has now died.

Five-year-old Semyon was fighting for his life along with his 13-year-old sister Sofia after their family tried to flee the country, but he died on Wednesday, according to a family friend.

His sister, 10-year-old Polina, and her parents, Anton Kudrin and Svetlana Zapadynskaya, were reportedly killed by Russian troops when the family was in a car trying to leave Kyiv.

A picture of pink-haired Polina was shared on Wednesday by Kyiv’s Deputy Mayor Volodymyr Bondarenko, who said: “Her name was Polina. She studied in the 4th grade of the school in Kyiv.

“She and her parents were shot dead by Russian DRG (Sabotage Reconnaissance Groups).”

Polina was in her final year of elementary school and is believed to be the first identified casualty of the war.

Semyon was treated at Kyiv’s Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital and remained in critical condition for 72 hours before dying.

His older sister Sofia remains in intensive care at another hospital, unaware that her entire family has died.

On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said 16 children had been killed in the conflict, but that number is likely to have risen since then.

Among those children, a six-year-old girl in pink unicorn-print pajamas was fatally wounded in Mariupol, southeastern Ukraine, on Sunday.

A doctor trying to save the child’s life told an Associated Press videographer: “Show that to Putin — that child’s eyes and doctors crying.”

Addressing the European Parliament, President Zelenskyy said: “President Putin will keep saying that this is some kind of operation and we are hitting military infrastructure.

“But where are our children? What military factories do they work in? What tanks are they driving?” The younger brother of a pink-haired girl shot dead with her parents in Ukraine has died
