There’s a kind of guest star called the Simpsons that never landed

The creative team behind “The Simpsons” may not have been able to secure a guest spot for an American President, but that hasn’t stopped them from making entire episodes with their loveliness. Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, and Jimmy Carter all made brief appearances, but were not just jokes in the background. There are only two instances that I can recall in which the commander-in-chief had episodes of their own.

At the beginning of the show’s eighth season, “The Simpsons” uses the upcoming 1996 election to attack Bill Clinton (Phil Hartman) and Bob Dole (Harry Shearer), with the alien Kang (Harry Shearer) and Kodos (Dan Castellaneta) murders the couple before returning to Earth. It’s funny how people eventually find out they’ve been replaced that doesn’t even matter.

But the most memorable presidential appearance came easily with the season 7 episode “Two Bad Neighbors,” in which George HW Bush (Harry Shearer), along with his wife Barbara (Tress MacNaille), moved to Springfield. It’s worth noting that they live right across the street from the Simpsons. The episode becomes a parody of “Dennis the Menace” with Bart (Nancy Cartwright) playing the innocent as he turns over the life of the former President. When Bush scolds Bart for misconduct, it prompts Homer (Dan Castellaneta) to declare war, resulting in clown wig stickers, lawn damage, and a sewer fight.

Perhaps it is best not to have the President as a guest, so as not to create a conflict of interest by actually mocking them.
