There’s More to American Menswear Than Gingham Shirts

AFTER LAUNCHING his line practically 20 years in the past, New York designer Thom Browne started working with Rocco Ciccarelli, a now-retired Italian tailor who got here to the U.S. in 1955. Mr. Ciccarelli appreciated the “mixture of French, Italian and English tailors who introduced [something] from house to create this American sensibility,” recalled Mr. Browne, identified for his surreal womenswear and shrunken males’s fits. LeBron James is a devoted fan of the latter.

The Metropolitan Museum of Artwork will discover that mutt-like sensibility in a brand new two-part trend exhibition, which incorporates Mr. Browne’s work. The primary present, “In America: A Lexicon of Trend” opens Sept. 18. | There’s Extra to American Menswear Than Gingham Shirts
