Prince Harry has appeared to accuse Buckingham Palace of lying to protect his brother, Prince William, while not doing the same to him.
new trailer for the last three episodes of their Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghanwas released yesterday, hinting that the couple would criticize royal aides for failing to protect them, while blaming “institutional spark”.
In it, Harry said: “They were happy to lie to protect my brother, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us.”
It’s unclear who he was referring to but his words were accompanied by pictures of Buckingham Palace and the princes walking behind Prince Philip’s coffin last year.
However, two different versions of the 90-second clip were released online, one on the Netflix website and the other on its YouTube channel.
The clips are identical except for a variation in the subtitles. The people on the YouTube version matched Prince Harry’s words exactly and said: “They’re happy to protect us…”
But the website’s trailer seems to cast doubt on the claim that he’s talking about the royal family because the subtitles don’t match the words heard in the audio.
Instead, they read: “The British media were happy to lie to protect my brother, they were never willing to tell the truth to protect us.”
Neither Netflix nor a spokesperson for the Sussexes responded to requests for clarification.
Although the context is unclear, Harry’s words echo comments made by his wife Meghan during an interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, when she alleged that Kensington Palace aides failed to protect her.
In the new trailer, Meghan also suggests that the pair purposefully dried it, saying: “I wasn’t thrown to the wolves, I was fed by the wolves.”
The short clip is likely to inflame tensions between the brothers and anger palace aides, who have long insisted that they bend over backwards to support the Sussexes.

Royal aides did not immediately respond to the allegations. Although they maintained a dignified silence last week, they reserve the right to respond when new episodes are released on Thursday, acknowledging that their “fatiguing sadness” could be replaced by angry.
Sources yesterday suggested that they will wait and see who “they” are before deciding whether to react.
Elsewhere in the trailer, Prince Harry hinted that their lives were in danger when talking about their decision to leave the UK: “I wonder what would have happened to us if we hadn’t come out. except when we do.”
Meghan added: “Our security has been withdrawn, everyone in the world knows where we are.” Harry then suggests that it is his decision to leave. “I said, we need to get out of here,” he said. (© Telegraph Media Group Ltd 2022)
