The Argentine icon was recently booed by his home fans in a Paris Saint-Germain game at the Parc de Princes following the club’s failure in the Champions League
Thierry Henry has launched an impassioned defense of Lionel Messi after the Argentine icon was booed by PSG supporters.
messi was booed and whistled at by sections of the PSG fan base during last weekend’s 3-0 Ligue 1 win at the Parc de Princes. The reaction from his own fans marks an incredible turnaround after the special welcome he received upon arrival in Paris following his departure Barcelona last summer.
PSG’s victory was overshadowed by their last one Champions League Failing as fans vented their feelings after a surrender in the second leg real Madrid at the Bernabeu just days earlier. Brazil star Neymar was also booed – but Kylian Mbappe escaped the cold reception from fans.
Messi has been underchallenged in the French capital since leaving Catalonia in the summer after an incredible 17-year run. He has scored just two goals in 18 Ligue 1 games under Mauricio Pochettino and was signed with expectations of leading the club to European glory.
But PSG were defeated 3-0 away in Monaco on Sunday as Messi was absent through illness. Pochettino’s side remain 13 points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table but a third loss from five is increasing the pressure on the former Tottenham Boss.
While Messi was criticized for not repeating his incredible goalscoring record in Paris, French legend Henry couldn’t believe he was being booed despite being ‘the greatest of all time’. the previous arsenal Forward praised Messi’s creative impact and dismissed such a negative reaction to a football genius.

“Last week PSG fans booed Messi. How do you boo the greatest of all time? The guy who assisted the most goals in Ligue 1?” he said on Amazon Prime FR after PSG’s recent defeat. “Without Messi, the team didn’t create anything today.”
Messi shares the highest number of assists currently in the French top flight, recording ten, the same tally as his quicksilver teammate Mbappe and Rennes star Benjamin Bourigeaud. He is likely to win the French championship later this season but his experience in Paris is becoming increasingly uncomfortable.
New Barcelona boss Xavi recently stated that the door is always open for Messi to make a dramatic return while he’s in charge at the Nou camp. “I think Messi is the best in history and in the history of the club,” he said.
“The doors will be open and as long as I’m coach it’s like he can come any day if he wants. As a club we owe him a lot of credit. He has a contract with PSG and I can’t.” do a lot more.”
