Third time lucky for Pixies at End Of The Road Festival

Music fans gathered in the thousands in a quiet corner of the Dorset countryside to celebrate one of the final events on the British festival calendar this weekend.

A sold-out crowd of 15,000 turned up at this year’s End Of The Road Festival, with American indie-rock pioneers the Pixies making a notable draw, making headlines on Saturday .

The influential guitar band, formed in 1986 and promoting their eighth studio album, had topped the bill in 2020 before the festival was canceled due to Covid.

They’ll make headlines again in 2021 but the continued effects of the pandemic have affected those plans as well.

Other festival highlights this year include Texas psychedelic trio Khruangbin and Seattle’s indie-folk rockers Fleet Foxes, who topped the main stage on Thursday and Friday respectively.

The independently organized festival, known for its diverse orchestra, has hosted artists from all over the world, including Malian Tinariwen’s blues group, Tamil-Swiss singer-songwriter Priya Ragu and great Ethiopian jazz Hailu Mergeia.

The four-day gathering, which turned 16 years old and ended on Sunday, was held in the larger Orchard, near the Blandform Forum.

It hosts four music stages, as well as a talk stage, but the highlight of the event is the surprise performances and one-off collaborations.

Among the unannounced acts performing this year is British experimental electronic rock band Beak, with Portishead’s Geoff Barrow.

Speaking earlier, festival co-founder Simon Taffe said he was “extremely excited” about this year’s event, which he said artists had been asked to play by organizers since 2006. Third time lucky for Pixies at End Of The Road Festival
