This Morning: Dermot corrects Alison in partygate discussion
This Morning’s Dermot O’Leary was forced to edit Alison Hammond on Monday morning as the pair hosted Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield’s Easter holiday show.
Dermot and Alison started the show with a chat about the headlines of the day alongside guests Gyles Brandreth and Beverley Turner.
Alison, 47, turned the conversation to Helen MacNamara, Whitehall’s former chief ethics officer, who is believed to have been fined by the Metropolitan Police in connection with a party held during the lockdown.
The former deputy cabinet secretary was fined £50 after a police investigation found she broke Covid laws by attending a locked karaoke party where she provided a karaoke machine, the report claims.
Alison noted that she “couldn’t believe” that the karaoke machine was hers, before co-host Dermot had to quickly intervene to qualify it as “reported” by her.

He added: “We don’t know for sure,” then Alison paused, saying, “Oh, it’s reported?” and glanced down at her notes.
She continued: “Well, it’s a karaoke machine. She was fined £50, but if you remember correctly a lot of people were fined £10,000 at the time. “
Elsewhere at the beginning of the show, Alison had to present This Morning alone when Dermot went missing – but he quickly showed up in a small car as he drove to the set.

When Lorraine host Ranvir Singh was getting ready to deliver to the couple, she was shocked to see an empty chair next to Alison.
The presenter explained that Dermot was late and hoped he would be on the show soon.
Welcoming the audience to the show afterwards, Alison remained alone as he said: “Hi, it was supposed to be me and Dermot, this is really embarrassing.”
But soon after, it emerged that Dermot was late because he was driving the world’s smallest car into the studio.

As he drove the little blue car to the set, Alison said, “I can’t believe this, you’re so redundant… you know what the weird thing is? It looks like a normal car your.”
Waving to onlookers as he tried to climb out, he said: “Hello everyone, hope you are well…we thought we were going to show off the world’s smallest and most economical car!”
And viewers were divided over the skit, with one tweeting: “The start of the show’s time was terrifying.”
Alison and Dermot will support Holly and Phil over the Easter break, while Kate Garraway stands in for Susanna Reid.
This Morning airs at 10 a.m. weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub.
