This Morning: Holly and Phil Respond to Caller Scam Story
Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were hooked on this Wednesday morning when one viewer explained how she was duped for £2,000.
The duo welcomed painful aunt Deidre Sanders to the ITV studio to usher the latest phone in, but they didn’t expect such a shocking story from the first caller.
The woman, who decided to use the pseudonym ‘Emma’, sounded downright heartbroken as she explained to the trio: “I got scammed this weekend.”
Father-of-two Phillip then asked Emma for details and asked, “How did they get you?”
Emma continued: “Someone contacted me off social media, I think it’s an actor that I admire and love to watch, I’m totally hooked, and it’s not.”
“Oh my, I’m so sorry,” Holly replied when Phillip asked, “So this actor you admire asked you for money?” to which she replied, “Yes.”
Deidre, 76, then asked her: “How much have you lost?” When Emma paused for a second before saying, “Well, I’ve been led to believe I’m going to have a meet and greet… um £2,000.”
Holly, 41, looks shocked at the money and is heard saying, “Emma, Emma, Emma…” as Phillip observes: “God, they can come to you from anywhere any direction.”
Deidre was keen to try and reassure the caller, describing it as “the most horrible feeling” before asking Emma if she had gone to the police.
Emma confirmed her son helped her report the crime to police but she “hasn’t heard back since she called them”.
“Remember it might not be one person, it could be a group of people, a very organized group of robbers,” Phillip later said.
This Morning airs at 10 a.m. weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub.
