Alison Hammond was left presenting This Morning alone today because of Dermot O’Leary’s disappearance – but he soon showed up in a small car driving to the set.
When Lorraine host Ranvir Singh was getting ready to deliver to the couple, she was shocked to see an empty chair next to Alison.
The presenter explained that Dermot was late and hoped he would be on the show soon.
Welcoming the audience to the show afterwards, Alison remained alone as he said: “Hi, it was supposed to be me and Dermot, this is really embarrassing.”
But soon after, it emerged that Dermot was late because he was driving the world’s smallest car into the studio.
As he drove the little blue car to the set, Alison said, “I can’t believe this, you’re so redundant… you know what the weird thing is? It looks like a normal car your.”
Waving to onlookers as he tried to climb out, he said: “Hello everyone, hope you are well…we thought we were going to show off the world’s smallest and most economical car!”
And viewers were divided over the skit, with one tweeting: “Starting at #thism morning.”
While another commented: “Makes me chuckle”.
A third wrote: “Oh NO #ThisMorning.”
“Why are Dermot & Alison pretending he’s not on set for rehearsals all morning? #Thismorning,” another joked.
Alison and Dermot will support Holly and Phil over the Easter break, while Kate Garraway stands in for Susanna Reid.
Richard Madeley joined Kate on the ITV show, despite being criticized after questioning why rape is a weapon of war on GMB today.
The two discussed the latest horrifying allegations that the Russian military used rape as a ‘weapon of war’ against Ukrainian civilians.
The UK’s ambassador to Ukraine said yesterday she was aware of reports of women and girls being raped in front of their families, describing it as an “act of willful submission”.
Kate and Richard were joined by Chip Chapman, a former British Senior Advisor to US Central Command, who offered his analysis of the situation.
After discussing the heartbreaking testimony uncovered by human rights groups, Richard asked: “Chip, we said something that was widely reported this morning that rape is used as a weapon of war. How is rape a weapon of war?”
In response, Chip said: “Well, it’s just trying to impose some kind of will on the enemy as was mentioned in the Second World War, that’s absolutely horrible. And if you’ve been hurt, moral harm. […] With those with weapons, you’ve got a lethal combination for the future. It is absolutely disgraceful and everyone needs to take note. “
But viewers were unimpressed by Richard’s question, with one piece writing: “Richard Madeley on #gmb just asked, ‘How exactly is rape a weapon of war?” ???? !!!!!!! “
While another commented: “Madeley, ‘rape is a weapon of war?’ What advertising ***!!! #GMB.”
