This Morning’s Josie Gibson broke down in tears during Wednesday’s broadcast of the ITV show as she revealed she lost four of her friends to suicide during the coronavirus lockdown.

The 37-year-old TV presenter, who replaced regular host Holly Willoughby after testing positive for Covid-19, shared the heartbreaking news during a mental health discussion with Dr. Nighat Arif.

Sitting with co-host Phillip Schofield, the GP discussed the impact Covid-19 and lockdown have had on residents’ mental health.

During the chat, Josie became emotional as she told an ITV audience that she had witnessed first-hand the damage the pandemic took after four male friends took their lives.

“During this pandemic, I personally know four people – four men – who took their lives to sue,” she said. I personally know them. The support is just not there. “

The mother of one child then asked how bad the NHS backlog was, and Dr Nighat said they were ‘terrible’.

She said: “Josie, it’s important for you to share that story because when we are creating the buzz change is going to happen and as a general practitioner, I see that.

“Over the past two weeks, I have seen many people commit suicide by overdose – my youngest is 14 years old. It’s really overwhelming, because the last two years as a general practitioner we’ve been struggling with our own mental health. “

She continued: “The difficulty is when the need is too much… Do it yourself, even I don’t have a solution for it.”

The GP also informs people watching at home about what they can do if they are really distressed, saying: “There is a lot that we can do.

Josie shared the heartbreaking news during a discussion about mental health with Dr. Nighat Arif.

“The first thing I said was talk, talk, talk. Don’t be shy, you can cry, you can be sad, make sure you’re going for a walk, exercising, seeing green space, hugging a tree. ”

Josie says she followed Dr Arif’s advice and explained how she copes when feeling “low”.

“Every day I take off my shoes and socks, and I walk in the grass because when you connect back to the earth, back to nature, you feel good,” she said.

This comes as Josie replaces Holly Willoughby on This Morning after she was forced to withdraw from the show when she tested positive for coronavirus over the weekend.
