THIS Morning’s Phillip Schofield was forced to apologize to a guest who spoke back every time the custard was mentioned.
The presenter, 59, burst out laughing as callers gasped in horror at the mention of the bleak dessert sauce.
In fact, the hosts called it “the yellow thing” because Michelle couldn’t even hear the word.
But Eva Speakman told her, “I see both you and your guardian as equal victims here,” and she recounted loudly.
Phillip was later seen covering his mouth to stop himself from screaming.
Unable to help themselves, he and co-host Rochelle Humes, who Fill it out while Holly Willoughby is away, was seen howling with laughter.
The guest then said it over and over again: “Oh, that makes me sweat just thinking about it.”
Phillip told her at the end of the call: “Listen, I’m so sorry Michelle for laughing. But it was really just an unusual noise.
“I feel terrible laughing like that but it was just a horrible noise.”
She replied: “It’s horrible” – before cutting it off for a retouch – adding: “It’s vile.”
Michelle called the program to speak with the Speakmans, who run the This Morning program that treats addictions, fears, phobias, and eating disorders.
Then she said, “I can’t even say it. It’s vile. It makes my skin crawl. It makes me rethink it, its shape, its color, its smell. Its – everything.
Nik Speakman explains: “I must have thought of trauma. It’s not really common.”
She told him, “It’s from my childhood – from elementary school. I was forced to eat it and it wasn’t the best when I was a kid. It was lumpy…”
And that point she cut to correct – sparking the first giggles from the side of Phillip’s desk.
Eva reassures callers that they can help her deal with her fear, saying, “Once the foundation is broken, the whole structure of that fear falls apart.”
