And he believes he has the kind of “aura” needed to be a key player for Arsenal as they try to find their way back among Europe’s elite.

Redknapp told Sky Sports: “He’s lovely when he’s holding the ball. “They win the ball back and allow the team-mates to go forward.

“When he first arrived at Atletico, he had a lot of injuries.

“But he has everything, he has that aura in him. He knows when to play the ball, slows down the game, picks the pass between the lines. You can see that what he does. doing with Xhaka, he gave Odegaard that platform to go and perform.

“He’s not just a defensive player, he can do so much more because he holds the ball very well.”
