The Chelsea manager is keen on bringing Gallagher into the west London first-team next season, having enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Crystal Palace so far
Thomas Tuchel has explained how he wants Conor Gallagher back in his Chelsea squad for next season and announced he has apologized for preventing the midfielder from playing on Sunday FA Cup semifinals
Take over the blues crystal palace, Gallagher’s loan side, at Wembley Stadium, but have turned down the Eagles’ request to allow the 22-year-old to play against his parent club. The midfielder has been nothing short of sensational since making a temporary move to Selhurst Park last summer.
As a result, Palace fans are keen to see the club attempt to turn the loan move into a permanent one, but Tuchel’s recent comments on Gallagher could be grim from that perspective, although the German admitted he’s not the only one he’s been involved with involved in the decision-making process.
“I believe Conor can be part of our squad and play a role with us. But I’m not the only one who decides. We need to talk to everyone after the season, talk after the season about what Conor wants, what we need to see what the situation is and what role we have for him to fight for.
“There has to be something to fight for, a role and a perspective of where you are, where you can be, what you have to achieve. So we have to be very clear with him and he has to be very clear with us. Then we will sort that. Its development is exceptional and outstanding.
“He is one of the key players at Crystal Palace and has taken a huge step forward in his development. It has been a pleasure coaching him in pre-season – he has such positive energy, energy to give in general and such a work rate that he can have a huge impact.”
Gallagher has 13 goals so far in the form of eight goals and five assists for the Eagles. His fine form was instrumental in Patrick Vieira’s side reaching the last four of the FA Cup, although he will be forced to watch from the touchline at Wembley.
“I had the opportunity to speak to Conor and I could see his frustration as well,” said Tuchel. “We met a few weeks ago; after the international break we happened to meet in a restaurant and we chatted. The subject came up and I apologized because I know how competitive he is and I like him a lot. “
“I know his character very well… That’s how it is. We play to win the game and the rules were clear when we conceded the loan. I can totally understand Patrick Vieira and Conor’s disappointment, but those are the rules when we’ve taken the credit and we don’t want to suffer under our rules.”
