Thousands of pounds seized from Worthing drug dealer

A COURT has seized thousands of pounds from a drug dealer after he was caught driving while intoxicated with powder around his nostrils.

Charlie Burns, from Worthing, was initially pulled over by officers after erratically driving in a black BMW on Brougham Road on December 21, 2021.

The 27-year-old appeared to be intoxicated and officers saw powder around his nostrils. He gave a positive DrugsWipe at the curb for cocaine.

A search of his vehicle revealed he was in possession of £23,900 in cash and around £9,000 worth of drugs, which he had stowed in a bag next to a child seat.

A further search for an address found £100,000 worth of cocaine hidden under a TV cabinet and more than £15,000 in cash.

At Lewes Crown Court in February, Burns admitted possession of ketamine with intent to supply, possession of cocaine with intent to supply and possession of cannabis with intent to supply. He also admitted to two charges of acquiring, using or possessing criminal property.

He was sentenced to five years and two months in prison.

Following that hearing, Sussex Police continued their investigation into Burns’ finances which found that more than £100,000 in cash and third party payments had passed through his accounts in the previous two years.

The Argos:

Burns appeared at Lewes Crown Court on August 15.

It has been revealed that he may have benefited in excess of £228,000 during the investigation period.

A sum of over £44,000 was available and was seized by the court.

Detective Inspector Mark O’Brien, of the Economic Crime Unit, said: “Burns had run a significant drug trade worth thousands of pounds in Worthing.

“He supplied Class A and B drugs that have done so much damage to our communities.

“His conviction shows the hard work of the police to ensure he had no choice but to plead guilty.

“Our financial investigation also demonstrates our determination to use all avenues at our disposal not only to catch criminals involved in drug-related crimes, but also to deny them the benefits of their illegality.” Thousands of pounds seized from Worthing drug dealer
