Three arrested during Kellie-Jay Keen rally in Brighton

THREE arrests were made at a rally in one of the city’s parks, including one on suspicion of sexual assault.

Sussex Police confirmed a woman and two men were arrested in Victoria Gardens in Brighton this afternoon.

The arrests came during a rally held by activist Kellie-Jay Keen, who is giving women the floor.

Ms Keen, also known as Posie Parker, announced she was visiting Brighton as part of her nationwide ‘Speaker’s Corner Tour’.

Hundreds were in the park, as were dozens of police officers.

One group was there to support Ms. Keen while the other group was there to show Ms. Keen that “she is not welcome here”.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “On Sunday 19 September an event and counter-protest took place in Brighton city centre.

“A woman and two men were arrested; one on suspicion of assault, one on suspicion of obstructing a police officer and one on suspicion of sexual assault by touching.

“They were all taken into custody.”

Chief Inspector Nick Dias said: “Our officers have worked to facilitate the event and counteract the protest so that both can take place peacefully.”
