Three Ireland increases minimum wage rate by 17 percent

Three Ireland has unveiled plans for a 17.4 percent increase in the minimum wage for white-collar workers.

The move comes as the company wants to pay a “living wage” of €13.85 an hour, according to recommendations from the Living Wage Technical Group.

From the beginning of next year, the wage increase will apply to all employees from 23,000 euros.

This group, which mainly works in the company’s retail and customer service, will see wages increase to 27,000 euros in 2023.

Three will also make a one-time payment of €500 to employees across the company who are earning €35,000 or less due to the cost of living crisis. According to the company, this will be given in the form of a One4All voucher.

Three currently employs 1,400 people in Ireland.

“Our people are central to our success and we have a responsibility to support them,” said Mark Redmond, Chief People Officer of Three Ireland and UK.

“In recognition of this and the incredible work of our employees, we are delighted to adopt the €13.85 hourly rate recommended by the Living Wage Technical Group for 2023,”

He added that this wage increase represents a 35 percent increase from the hourly rate of €10.20 in 2021.

Founded in 2014, the Living Wage Technical Group tracks changes in the cost of living to calculate an hourly rate that provides a “socially acceptable standard of living”.

The group is supported by a range of charities, unions and educational institutions.

The updated hourly figure of €13.85 for 2023 represents a 7 percent increase from the €12.90 recommended by the group last year. Three Ireland increases minimum wage rate by 17 percent
