To use package notifications, you’ll need a Ring Protect subscription, which starts at £3.49 a month.

You will also need a Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) or a Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2.

track visitors

Your doorbell can show visitors’ directions on an aerial map in the Ring app.

The map is called a bird’s-eye view and is made up of motion events recorded by your camera throughout the day.

It helps you track where people are walking, entering and exiting your property.

The feature provides a useful way to find out exactly where a delivery driver left a package, for example.

To try it yourself, you’ll first need to set up 3D motion detection, which triggers video recordings when your camera detects movement.

You can find out how to do this at Ring’s website.

Once this is done, Bird’s Eye View will be activated automatically.

battery saving tip

If your Ring Doorbell isn’t hardwired, it can burn out the battery pretty quickly with constant use.

The device is pretty much useless without power, so employing a battery-saving trick or two might save your blush.

For example, turning on motion detection is one way to ensure the device isn’t running all the time.

When enabled, your doorbell will only record video and audio when it detects motion within a certain area.

This allows your battery to last much longer as clips are only recorded when there is something going on near your door.

This saves your battery life and has the added benefit of saving your cloud storage space.

  • Open the Ring app and select your Ring device.
  • Beat motion settings.
  • Beat movement zones.
  • On the Motion Zones screen, move the slider to the spot labeled “MIN,” then make sure all zones are off on the next screen.

Add shared users

If you have multiple people living in your home, you may want each of them to have access to your Ring account.

This allows them to view alerts, cameras and share videos, access to which can be granted or revoked by the owner.

Instead of sharing your login information with multiple people — which could compromise your account if the wrong person learns your password — try adding them as a shared or guest user.

This gives them access to the account while keeping your credentials secure.

It also prevents roommates from changing system settings or account information.

  • open that device settings Page in the Ring app for one of your Ring devices.
  • Beat Shared Users.
  • Beat Add User.
  • Enter the email address of the person you want to add as a common user.
  • Select the devices you want to share with this person.
  • Beat Send invitation.
