It’s one of several tricks worth trying from the world’s most popular music streaming app.

Here are three top features you might not know about.

Block artists you don’t like

You can prevent singers or bands from appearing in curated playlists or suggestions.

However, if they appear in another artist’s song, they can still slip through the net.

Whether you’re using an iPhone or Android, launch the Spotify app and search for the artist.

On their artist page, tap the three dots next to “Follow.”

Private listening on Spotify

Anyone who follows you on Spotify can see what you’re listening to.

If you’d rather not do it, you can start a private session.

But be warned, when Spotify is on, it no longer tracks what you’re listening to for recommendations like Discover Weekly.

To turn it on, go to the home screen and select the settings cog icon at the top.

Under Social, turn on Private Session.

Create a shared recommendation playlist with friends

Spotify cleverly creates a playlist for you and your friends based on similar content you like.

It’s called mix.

You can invite up to ten friends to participate.

Just tap the Seek symbol below followed by made for you.

Tap Create a mixture.

Next hit Invite to send a link to your friends.

Once they accept, you can tap the link you sent them to view the mix.
