How to delete sent messages

The ability to delete a message after you’ve sent it is by far one of WhatsApp’s crowning achievements.

And unlike other messaging services (e.g. iMessage), if you delete a text from a WhatsApp chat box, it will be deleted for everyone, not just you.

This feature is especially useful if you’ve sent a message to the wrong chat or there’s an error in your message.

You can delete a message(s) by opening WhatsApp and then going to the chat that contains the message.

Once you find the message, tap and hold it until “Delete” appears.

Tap Delete, then tap Delete for Everyone.

Messages that were successfully deleted for everyone are replaced with: “This message has been deleted.”

How to send a disappearing message

Another good privacy feature that everyone should know about on WhatsApp is sending a disappearing message, photo or video.

If you enable this feature, all new messages in a chat will disappear after seven days.

To do this, go to the specific chat > click the person’s name at the top of the chat > tap Disappearing Messages > tap On.

You can also send a disappearing image or video that collapses once the recipient views it.

This is useful when sending sensitive information such as bank details.

To do this, first go to the respective chat and then tap on the “+” next to the message input field.

Next, select “Camera” to take a photo or “Photo & Video Library” to select a photo.

Once you’ve selected the photo, tap the ‘1’ next to the blue send arrow and then tap the blue arrow to send.

How to use WhatsApp on your laptop

Another great thing about WhatsApp is that the service is not just limited to your mobile phone, you can use it on a tablet or a laptop/desktop too.

There is a browser app that you can access as a WhatsApp user that syncs everything from your phone to your laptop.

You can also download a desktop app if you prefer.
