Threes Brewing CEO sparks backlash with vaccine authorization comment

He also said his views do not necessarily reflect those of his colleagues.

“I think it’s unfortunate if the people working here, who don’t even share my views, have to suffer consequences for an act that is not theirs,” he said.

This week’s tweets are not Mr. Stylman’s first public statement on the matter. In the first day of this month he drew a straight line between asking customers to prove they were vaccinated to gain access to Nazi indoor spaces and segregation in the Jim Crow South.

Lincoln Restler, a City Council member from Brooklyn, said that he was planning an event at Threes, but after Mr. Stylman’s opinion, he will choose another location. Despite celebrating many special occasions at the brewery, Mr. Restler said he felt the need to remove blatant misinformation.

“I am deeply disappointed that co-owners and managing partners spread lies and inaccurate information that undermine the health of our community,” said Mr. Restler. “Vaccines save lives.”

Andrew Gerber, 44, of Carroll Gardens, says he’s a fan of Threes beer and the atmosphere at the brewery, but he has no plans to return.

“Vaccine mandates are put in place to make sure we don’t kill each other more than we already have,” he said. “Comparing them to the Nazis and the Jim Crow South is obscene.”

Seth Pollack, 32, of Gowanus said he has been a site fixture in his neighborhood, with his industrial look and large backyard, for many years. He went there for birthday parties, dates and even on election night.

“It was a big surprise for me,” he said of Mr. Stylman’s remarks. “I don’t think anyone would expect this beloved place in Gowanus to be run by someone whose views don’t fit with so many of the communities here.” Threes Brewing CEO sparks backlash with vaccine authorization comment
