Tiger Woods has announced he will be training in Augusta before deciding whether to compete at next week’s Masters.
oods has not competed in a top event since being involved in a horrific car accident in February 2021.
The 15-time major champion required surgery for open fractures to his right lower leg and other injuries to his foot and ankle after being involved in a vehicle accident in Los Angeles.
“I’m leaving for Augusta today to continue my prep and training,” five-time Masters champion Woods said on his personal Twitter account on Sunday.
“It will be a game decision whether I compete.”
Wood’s potential participation in the Masters, the first major tournament of 2022, has been the talk of the golf world.
The 46-year-old American, who shortly after the accident feared that his right leg would have to be amputated, competed in the PNC championship with son Charlie in December.
But Woods was allowed to use a cart in the 36-hole event and, due to the scramble format, could choose to miss some shots.
He said in February he “could run on a treadmill all day” but had “a long way to go” before he was fit enough to tackle a course on the waves of Augusta.
