TikTok creates 1,000 new jobs in Dublin

TikTok will add 1,000 new jobs to its Dublin operations.

The move, which was widely anticipated after the social media company reserved additional office space, will bring the company’s total workforce in Ireland to over 3,000 people.

TikTok is owned by the Chinese company Bytedance.

TikTok CEO Shouzi Crew announced the move after meeting Taoiseach Micheal Martin today. It currently has 361 vacancies for its Dublin office, ranging from security to engineering to advertising and language localization.

Although TikTok doesn’t have content moderation in Dublin, it employs “auditors” for content moderation. A number of the company’s European entities are headquartered in Dublin, including the ‘Trust and Security Centre’, the Transparency and Accountability Centre, the Fusion Centre, the European SMB Operations and the European Data Protection and Privacy teams.

TikTok makes most of its money from advertising. A recent Insider Intelligence report predicts that TikTok’s global ad revenue will triple this year, outpacing Snapchat and Twitter combined.

The report estimates that TikTok will generate more than $11 billion in ad revenue by 2022, with more than half coming from the United States.

The study also predicts that TikTok’s UK ad revenue will account for 8.9 per cent of the company’s global ad revenue by the end of this year, up 190 per cent to £753 million and giving the company a 2nd quarter share .9 per cent in the UK digital advertising market.

“Tik Tok’s recent expansion further embeds Ireland as a key hub for its European and global operations and is a clear demonstration of its commitment to this country,” said Taoiseach Micheal Martin. TikTok creates 1,000 new jobs in Dublin
