TIKTOK has once again extended the maximum length of videos on its platform.
The Chinese tech giant told TechCrunch on Monday that it will roll out the ability to upload clips up to ten minutes long, up from three minutes.
The move marks another shift toward longer-form videos as part of the popular app’s bid to compete with likes on YouTube.
“Today, we’re excited to begin rolling out the ability to upload videos up to 10 minutes in length,” a spokesperson said.
They added that the change will “open up even more creative possibilities for our creators around the world.”
The last time the company increased the maximum video length was in July, when it increased the limit from 60 seconds to three minutes.
This latest increase is the largest and will roll out globally.
Some users received notifications from the TikTok app informing them of the news.
This change will benefit content creators who prefer longer videos, such as cooking and makeup tutorials.
Users will now no longer need to split long-form content into multiple videos.
It will also put TikTok in a better position to challenge YouTube, which launched a TikTok-style video feature “Shorts” last year.
However, some concerns have been raised about the timing of the move.
TikTok gained notoriety over the past week for its handling of videos that spread misinformation about Russia Invasion of Ukraine.
“We continue to closely monitor the situation, with increased resources to respond to emerging trends and remove offending content, including harmful misinformation and incitement to violence,” TikTok said. speak.
“We also partner with independent fact-checking organizations to further support our efforts to help make TikTok a safe and authentic place.”
