Timothee Chalamet’s Old Vic debut canceled after pandemic delays

Timothee Chalamet’s debut at The Old Vic Theater has been canceled after two years of delays due to the pandemic.

The Oscar-nominated actor, 26, was set to star alongside British actress Dame Eileen Atkins in an adaptation of Amy Herzog’s critically acclaimed play 4,000 Miles.

The production was originally scheduled to open in London in April 2020 but was postponed when theaters across the country were forced to close their doors.

A statement from The Old Vic said: “Following the postponement of 4000 miles due to the pandemic, and despite tremendous efforts by everyone involved, we have now sadly and reluctantly come to the conclusion that we cannot postpone production at a time where it is possible for everyone stakeholders.

Conclude

Timothee Chalamet was to appear alongside British actress Dame Eileen Atkins (Ian West/PA).

“After two years of trying hard to make it work, it has proven impossible.

“We’re sorry not to have better news and we want to thank our audience for their continued patience and understanding.”

Chalamet was set to star as 21-year-old Leo, who seeks solace at the New York home of his 91-year-old grandmother, Vera, who was to be played by Dame Eileen, after a bereavement during a summer bike ride.

The actor is one of Hollywood’s most in-demand young actors, having recently starred in Dune (2021) and Little Women (2019).

He has previously appeared in US theater productions in The Talls in 2011 and Prodigal Son in 2016.
