Timothy Dalton has a theory as to why his James Bond isn’t being appreciated

Although Dalton is quite well known in the UK for his theatrical work and his portrayal of Prince Barin in Mike Hodges’ “Flash Gordon”, he has failed to make an impression in the US. This meant that MGM/UA had to redouble its marketing efforts to sell the 007 brand. While Dalton’s Bond debut title, “The Living Daylight,” lacked appeal, the film delivered to the excitement. His Bond is an upright killer with a mildly romantic personality. He’s vulnerable, but he doesn’t want anyone else to know his tough attitude is breakable. Basically, if you cast him in “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”, you’ll have an undisputed masterpiece.

“The Living Daylights” set a record three-day opening weekend for a Bond series when it hit US theaters on July 31, 1987. washington articles and The New York Times drunk, but Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert turn their influential thumbs down. At the end of its theatrical run, “The Living Daylights” narrowly overtook “A View to a Kill,” which has baffled the franchise’s managers.
