Tips and tricks for setting up your new PS5

IT’S the holiday season and that means many of us will be getting gifts and if we’re lucky, some of the latest consoles.

But setting it up isn’t that easy, and you’ll probably want to set it up before Christmas to play your new games that day.

To make sure the holidays go as smoothly as possible, we’ve got a PS5 setup guide to walk you through the process.

Here are the top tips and tricks for setting up your new PS5.

How to install the stand on your PS5

The stand can be tricky to figure out, but it’s important to make sure your console doesn’t get knocked over and damaged.

To attach the stand, pivot the top to reveal a screw in a secret compartment on the bottom.

Take out the small black washer on the bottom of the console, then slide the stand onto the back of the console so the thick piece is sticking out at the back.

Then all you have to do is attach it with the screw and your PS5 is ready for an accident.

Get more storage space on your PS5

The PS5 has significant storage space, but it won’t last long considering how large game files can be these days.

If you have a portable USB SSD, it’s the easiest way to give your console extra storage, and with a fast cable, you can run PS4 games straight from storage.

This is the easiest solution if you have a large backlog of games you want to play.

HDMI cables and displays for PS5

The PS5 has a number of features that can only be used on newer TVs and monitors that support HDMI 2.1.

If you have a fancy TV like this, make sure you also get an HDMI 2.1 cable and that it’s plugged into the right port.

This will give you all the shiny features you’re looking for and the best possible looks.

You should then go into settings and enable 120Hz, which will allow you to play games at 120 frames per second.

Enabling VRR also allows games to look better at these faster frame rates.

Set up DualSense on the PS5

The new DualSense controller features haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that provide a more realistic feel but can impact your gameplay.

If you’re into shooters, your shots will slow down as you pull harder on the trigger.

But don’t worry, you can change all of this in the settings, including reducing the effect or disabling it entirely if you want to improve your gameplay.

The DualSense controller also has a built-in microphone, so you can start playing in groups right away.

If someone complains about your microphone quality, you can double-tap the PS button to go straight to your party settings.

Another neat controller trick is that you can use the triangle button to automatically switch to the search bar on any page.

View in-game guides at any time on PS5

Most games on PS5 have game guides built into the menus.

Tap the PS button to watch a series of videos with tips to help you complete levels, find items, and clean up your last few trophies.

This feature was there from the start, but somehow players managed to overlook it.
