Tirlán grain prices announced for 2022 harvest

Tirlán will pay its members €310/t for forage barley and €320/t for forage wheat for the 2022 crop after receiving “the highest volumes of premium crops ever,” it has announced.

In total, it pays over €100 million for grain, of which €645/t for high erucic acid rapeseed (HEAR), €350/t for gluten-free oats and €595/t for rapeseed.

It pays €335/t for standard food grade oats, €385/t for malting barley and €295/t for forage oats (without contract).

The grain payment includes an allocation of funds from milk and grain pricing, as announced by Tirlán back in April.

Shareholders supplying dried grain will receive an additional one-time payment of €5/t on dried tonnes purchased in crop year 2022 to help cover unprecedented energy costs.

Transport costs for delivering green grain at harvest to drying locations were increased by over 20 percent in the face of higher fuel costs, and the Co-op also increased the moisture difference from €2/t to €3/t for each percentage change to reflect this higher value of dry weight loss.

Seán Molloy, Tirlán’s chief ingredients and agriculture officer, said the cooperative is focused on expanding its customer base and acreage for premium crops, including gluten-free oats and HEAR oilseed rape.

“In the 2022 crop, Tirlán produced the highest volumes of premium crop to date, yielding on average almost €40/t above feed grain prices.

“These premiums are crucial for farm profitability.

“The specialized grain portfolio will bring premium payments to producers in excess of €3 million this harvest.”

The payments worth over 100 million

He emphasized the capability of the network of facilities in processing large quantities of high-quality grain in a short time, driven by excellent harvest conditions and good yields.

“Total green intake exceeded more than 200,000 tonnes, with over 65,000 tonnes of grain handled in one week alone.

“This is a tribute to our dedicated employees and the level of investment that has been made in the processing network.”

Tirlán’s new innovation center continues to work with its premium grain portfolio “with a strong focus on the plant-based food sector as part of our commitment to maximize yields for farming families,” he said.
