Todd Phillips’ Joker sequel is rumored to be released in 2024

According to US media, the sequel to Todd Phillips’ Joker film is set to hit the big screen in 2024.

In June, the director announced a sequel to the 2019 film was in the works when he shared a picture of a screenplay on Instagram, as well as another reading it with the original’s star Joaquin Phoenix.

The upcoming screenplay will be titled Joker: Folie A Deux, the French term referring to a medical term referring to a mental disorder affecting two or more people.

Phillips also announced that he and Scott Silver would be reuniting to write the sequel.

The original Warner Bros. film followed the life of troubled would-be comedian Arthur Fleck, whose feelings of being oppressed by society eventually transform him into the notorious criminal mastermind.

In addition to Phoenix, who played the title role, the film’s cast included Robert De Niro and Zazie Beetz.

The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Actor for Phoenix.

Phoenix has also won Best Actor awards at the Baftas, Critic’s Choice Awards (CCA), Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

This news comes after it was revealed that Warner Bros has canceled the upcoming Batgirl movie months ahead of its scheduled late 2022 release.

The DC movie – starring Hollywood stars Michael Keaton, Brendan Fraser, JK Simmons and Leslie Grace – was shot in Glasgow and was reportedly estimated to cost $70 million (£57.6 million) to produce.

Following the news, the film’s directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah said they were “sad and shocked” and wished fans could have the “opportunity to see and embrace the finished film for themselves.”
