Toddler wandering the streets alone wearing only a diaper sparked the hunt for parents

A concerned passerby spotted the toddler walking alone and took the child by the hand to the nearby Greggs store for warmth and comfort as a public appeal was made

A toddler was found alone on a main street wearing only a diaper.
The boy, who was believed to be just three years old, was spotted strolling the town’s main street in Uddingston on Sunday morning.

Staff there, along with a local, took care of the boy while a public appeal went out on social media to trace the toddlers’ parents.
The police were also notified, who in turn asked the responsible partner agencies for help.
A related Facebook post read: “URGENT.
“My partner is currently on Uddingston Main Street in Gregg with a stray toddler who is around 3/4 years old and walking around alone in a diaper.
“Please can this be shared as they can’t find the parents, he was snuggled up to my partner as he doesn’t want to put up with anyone else! Currently awaiting police arrival.”
It is understood the toddlers’ parents had not realized their son was gone, saw the social media post and checked on him when they realized he was gone and ran frantically to retrieve their son.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At around 8.30am on Sunday 19 June, police received a call about a paging call.
“A member of the public contacted police to say they had seen a young child alone on Main Street Uddingston.
“The child was located and showed no signs of stress. Officials conducted investigations and contacted partner agencies.
“The child was returned to his parents’ home.”
