Tom Alsop helps Sussex beat Middlesex in the Royal London Cup

Tom Alsop is ready for a big Hove date after helping Sussex reach the semi-finals of the Royal London Cup.

Alsop made an unbeaten 189 not out and Cheteshwar Pujara added 132 in a big win over Middlesex.

The pair added 240 for the third wicket in 27 overs as Sussex hit 400 and ensured they led their nine-team group.

Alsop said: “Thanks to everyone at the club.

“We’re allowed to go out there and express ourselves.

“Puj has such a calming influence.

“He seems to have everything under control. He understands the game so well and we just feed on him.

“It just feels great to get to the next stage at home where we know the conditions.”

Middlesex manager Richard Johnson said: “It’s been a tough day. We thought it would be a good wicket to keep chasing but we didn’t get the right end of the conditions.

“We are a young bowling team and it was very wet out there.

“There were a couple of outstanding innings from Sussex, one by a world class player and the other by Tom Alsop who played extremely well.” Tom Alsop helps Sussex beat Middlesex in the Royal London Cup
