Tony Bloom expects Albion fans to have realistic expectations for the upcoming season.
But he hopes the days of the media tipping him off are over.
The Seagulls are gearing up for a top-flight sixth straight season as they look to improve on their ninth-place finish from 2021-22.
Never before has an Albion team started a new season from such lofty heights.
But Chairman Bloom said the key is to prepare properly, work hard – and see what happens.
Bloom knows the excitement will be high – but within reason.
He told The Argus: “I think our fan base is realistic to know that ninth place was amazing, also a well deserved ninth.
“It’s not easy to maintain that, so I’d like to think the fans understand the club and where we’ve been.
“We always aim high.
“We have to be realistic to a certain extent.”
Regarding expectations from afar, he said: “As for the media, I’m not sure.
“I think for the first three or four seasons in the Premier League most of the media expected us to be relegated.
“The national media, I’m not quite sure where they’re going to take us.
“In terms of us as a group of players and as a team, we just don’t have to worry too much about outside expectations.
“It’s about preparing properly, giving your best in every game and we end up where we end up.”
Bloom is optimistic about the upcoming season.
He said: “I think we’ve improved our squad and our team over the last three years under Graham (Potter, head coach) so I hope that the bar is set very high, we can continue that progression, get even better, still win more games.”
