Tony Ferguson has vowed he’s just getting started despite suffering a brutal loss to Michael Chandler at UFC 274.

The 7th-ranked lightweight contender returned to the octagon after nearly a year against Chandler in Phoenix. But he was brutally KO’d by his rival, who left him cold with an explosive kick, defeating Ferguson for the fourth straight game.

Ferguson has now made his first statement since the devastating loss, writing on Instagram: “Congratulations to Michael Chandler on his victory at UFC 274. Had a blast in there you fans are wild as hell! I love that shit! It feels good to be back and hungry again. We’ve only just started. Good luck with your next battle champion. For the love of the game. -CSO-.”

The pair exchanged heated verbal jabs throughout the build as they prepared for their clash at the intersection. An enemy build-up led to an action-packed encounter, with Chandler dropping his opponent in the opening round before suffering a nasty cut.

However, he ended the show in spectacular fashion with a wild kick that made Ferguson blush on the chin and sent him falling to the screen. Ferguson was helped to his feet and taken to the hospital immediately as a precaution.

He was subsequently released after undergoing medical examinations, and his opponent hailed his victory during the post-fight interview. “We don’t really train that much, it just happened,” Chandler said. “He’s so long, but he keeps his hands at the side, so there’s a mark down the middle. We also wanted to do a fake uppercut many times, but it turned out he tagged me in the first round.

“What the fans at home will never feel is when you’re down and you’ve had a lap like I just had – it wasn’t that crucial and Tony Ferguson showed up – you gotta get something out of you” God came through and here we are . I’m ready to come back, the main event. There isn’t a single MMA fan that doesn’t want to see me take on you Charles or Justin Gaethje.”

“If the UFC has a brief error and someone else takes the title, I have a guy on my mind. Conor McGregor, I’m the most entertaining lightweight on the planet. I want you at your worst and I want you at your best; you and me at 170 pounds.”

Chandler is now fighting for the vacant 155-pound belt while Oliveira is forced to vacate his title after losing weight in last weekend’s main event. The Brazilian choked Justin Gaethje in the opening round and will fight for his old belt in his next fight.
