LIST of the 10 most stolen cars of 2021 revealed – where is your rank?
Ford Fiestas and Range Rovers dominated this year’s list, with the Mitsubishi Outlands topping the list of most-purchased plug-ins, according to DVLA data.
As of November 30, 43,603 vehicles have been reported stolen by police to the DVLA, according to car rental comparison website LeaseLoco, which requests data through a Freedom of Information request.
It’s a car that gets stolen from its owner every 11 minutes somewhere in the UK.
Experts predict that the number of tanks in 2021 will likely be the highest of 46,876 registered vehicles in 2020, but will be significantly less than the 58,642 vehicles stolen in 2019, before the pandemic. .
DVLA data shows that the Ford Fiesta Zetec (418) is the most stolen vehicle in 2021. The turbo Zetec model (204) also appears in 8th place on the list. Seven of the eight most stolen cars are Fiestas.
The only other models in the Top 10 are the Range Rover Sport HSE, Range Rover Sport HSE Dynamic and the BMW 520D.
Just over 5% of cars stolen in 2021 were plug-in vehicles, with police reporting 2,279 stolen plugs to the DVLA.
At the top is the Mitsubishi Outlander 4H PHEV.
LeaseLoco CEO John Wilmot said the results from the study showed how important it is for everyone to lock their cars securely.
He said: “The Ford Fiesta may be about to lose its title of best-selling car in the UK but it retains its undisputed title as the most stolen car in the UK.
“While the Range Rover Sport, one of the most popular luxury SUVs on the market, has been targeted by sophisticated criminal gangs who have the knowledge and keyless technology to Intrusion.”
He added that the results should not be a reason for car owners not to buy these cars just because they appear on the list.
“If you take the right precautions, you can avoid falling victim to car thieves – and that’s true for any car owner,” he said.
“Always make sure your car is locked before you go and check if it locks at night. Think about upgrading your car’s security; This may include the installation of alarm, immobilization and monitoring systems.
“Consider another layer of security in the form of a steering wheel lock, which also acts as an effective visual deterrent.
“And make sure you keep your car keys safe; keep them out of sight from windows and doors, don’t leave your car running with the key in the lock, and consider using a key bag. signal blocker to block radio signals from the keyless entry system.”
