The picturesque seaside town of Prestatyn in Denbighshire has become the UK’s most popular tourist destination Easter Holidays, according to new research Airbnb.

The platform has unveiled the top staycation hotspots that are seeing the biggest surge in searches from Britons April holidays.

Wales reigned first in the new ranking; Not only did Prestatyn take first place, but Carmarthen and Merthyr Tydfil also made the top 10 in the summary.

Along with a main street full of shops, pubs and restaurants, Prestatyn boasts sandy beaches that visitors have praised for their cleanliness and the scenic walks on offer.

Sharing his positive experience on Tripadvisor, one visitor wrote: “This amazing stretch of golden sand stretches for miles. In fact you can hike along the coast from Prestatyn to Talacre or to Rhyl if you want a good walk.

“When we visited the beach it was clean and lifeguards were present. Despite being a very popular beach, it is so spacious that social distancing was not an issue.”

Another added: “Lots and lots of nice sand when the tide goes out. At low tide you can walk/bike for miles along the promenade. Worth a visit.”

Prestatyn wasn’t the only Welsh town to emerge as a staycation hotspot.

Carmarthen in Carmarthenshire has been another destination that has attracted British interest, with numerous museums and attractions such as Carmarthen Castle in the area, as well as the scenic walks around Carmarthen Bay.
