A TOP confectionery company has recalled a number of products after it was found that some of the products contained Salmonella.

BakeAway has recalled six affected products and said points of sale will be rolled into stores.

The Food Safety Authority said: “BakeAway is recalling specific batches of various raw pastry and dough products due to the presence of Salmonella.

“Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores provided with the relevant batches.”

They added: “Infected people Salmonella Symptoms usually develop 12 to 36 hours after infection, but can range from 6 to 72 hours.

“The most common symptom is diarrhea, which can sometimes be bloody.

“Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts four to seven days.

“Diarrhea can sometimes be so severe that it requires hospitalization.

“The elderly, infants and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to become seriously ill.”

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland added: “Retailers are required to remove relevant lots for sale and notify their customers with a prominent point-of-sale recall notice in stores. where the affected lots were sold and by any other suitable communication channel.

“Wholesale/distributors are required to contact their affected customers to recall the relevant batches and provide recall notices at the point of sale to their retail customers. .”
