Spring is here, but instead of heading outside to enjoy the glorious weather, we’re excited to see what video games are trending April 2022. It’s been a mixed year so far and things will slow down a bit now – but that’s no reason not to be excited as Dorrani collapses in the video above.
First of all we have Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. It’s no secret that I was very impressed with this game during my last hands-on practice, and I think it has everything it takes to be one of those under-the-radar hits that just keeps getting bigger and bigger over time gain momentum. As I said in my preview, this is a dream come true for Star Wars fans and kids (of all ages).
Keep an eye on this as it launches and launches for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch April 5th.
Next there is MLB The Show 22. As Dorrani notes, this may seem a bit of a niche game for people here in the UK, but baseball’s international appeal shouldn’t be overlooked – and MLB games tend to sell very well (and not just in the US) . It might even find a slightly bigger audience this year when it lands on Xbox Game Pass on day one – will that inspire you to give it a try?
This year’s entry is the next in San Diego Studios’ annual baseball game series and aims to be the most immersive baseball simulation in gaming. It will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Switch April 5thand it will have cross-save and cross-play functionality across all platforms.
Counterplay Games Action RPG, Godfall: Ultimate Edition, makes the leap to the Xbox and Steam platforms after almost a year and a half of exclusivity on the PS5/Epic Game Store. Sure, it was the launch game of launch games when it first came to the shiny new Sony console in 2020, but it’s come a long way with a multitude of patches and updates since then.
Are all these reworks good enough to save the game? No probably not. But hey! At the very least, there’s some good fighting and action to be had in Godfall if you watch closely enough and spend enough time playing the game. Look forward (or not) to new platforms 9th April.
If you’ve been yearning for a Wii Sports solution ever since one of the best-selling gaming consoles finally kicked up the dust, fret not: Nintendo Switch Sports is almost here! The game includes six sports: soccer, volleyball, bowling, tennis, badminton and the Chambara sword fight. You can even use a Joy-Con with the leg strap accessory included with the physical version to kick the ball in a soccer shootout – which is great if you’re tired of the Ring Fit but want to keep gaming and fitness together.
The game allows you to play with others in person or online in 1v1, 2v2 or free-for-all. If you’re bowling with others, players can bowl at the same time so you don’t have to wait your turn – which is nice! It launches exclusively for the Switch April 29th.
In February 2022, Nintendo announced Direct, Nintendo and Square Enix Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition; a remaster that includes abridged content never before available in the West. The Radical Dreamers portion of the game – a side story that ties both Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger together – is worth revisiting this game on its own (even if you didn’t partake in that killer soundtrack, great combat, and… powerful story). The game starts up 7th of April.
So what do you think? It’s a little less crowded than this year, but it’s still a good month for sports fans and RPG fans. Let us know what you would like to take with you in the comments.
