Ukrainian fighter jet fires missiles and performs barrel rolls
A compelling new video shows a Ukrainian jet firing missiles and performing elaborate barrel rolls amid the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.
The minute-long cockpit clip, shared on Twitter, shows the pilot performing nerve-wracking maneuvers in a mid-air show of force.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry – which shared the footage – captured the moment a pilot is seen boarding a MIG-29 fighter jet before taking off from an airfield under Ukrainian control.
Defense experts then confirmed that the jet took off from Voznesensk in Mykolaiv Oblast, a reserve base of the Ukrainian Air Force.
Geolocation software captured the pilot as he flew over several towns and villages near the reserve base used by the Ukrainian Air Force before the clip cuts to a glimpse of the top of the cockpit as the pilot fires a profusion of missiles.
Commenting on the clip, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said: “Dear world, look at how beautiful our country is. Is it any wonder that our pilots defend it with such courage and passion?”.
Yesterday (June 20) more dramatic footage was captured of a Russian pilot bursting into flames as a battle-hardened Ukrainian soldier shot down his helicopter.
Top Gun-like video shared by Ukrainians shows the moment a low-flying Mi-35M helicopter is hit by a shoulder-launched missile.
An orange flash appears and the plane spins into a fireball as it flies to a nearby field seconds later. Images from the episode show the wreckage of the £30m attack.
This clip comes after more dramatic footage emerged showing a Ukrainian jet narrowly dodging a Russian missile trap during a mid-air fight.
This time, a Soviet-designed Su-25 fighter jet can be seen flying over a strait over the eastern Donbass region as the pilot’s radar starts flashing, warning him of an imminent Russian attack on his plane.
In a show of strength, the pilot begins twisting and turning to escape the impact, performing a series of different and challenging maneuvers at high speed.
At some point he comes dangerously close to the ground with the wings of his plane, slightly grazing the trees below him.
However, this is not the first time that Ukrainian or Russian pilots have come under attack.
As the Russo-Ukrainian War enters its fourth month, the Russian Air Force has so far struggled to gain control of the Ukrainian skies.
Despite its estimated 4,000 fighter jets and vast experience bombing targets in wars and combat zones in Syria, Georgia and Chechnya, Russia has failed to achieve aerial supremacy.
The Ukrainian Air Force has so far managed to expand its offensive air capabilities and adapt its air operations to retaliate against Russian attacks.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has boasted that a new hypersonic nuclear missile is just months away from completion.
The SARMAT missile, referred to as Satan-2 in the West, is considered one of the most powerful nuclear weapons available to the despot.
