Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu meets troops on Ukrainian soil

New footage shows Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visiting the front in Ukraine for the first time.

Shoigu, 67, made his first visit to an undisclosed Ukrainian location to speak to troops in the war zone and try to restore control of the war in Ukraine.

Russia has not disclosed the location, but there is strong speculation that it was Mariupol in the blitz which its forces captured from Ukraine.

Russian state television boasted that Shoigu would visit major cities like Kyiv, Odessa and Mykolaiv in the future once the Russian invasion had conquered the major cities of Ukraine.

The defense minister is an army general seen as a likely successor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and his visit was seen as a way to send the “I’m in control” message on his first visit to a war zone.

In March, Shoigu disappeared for several weeks after claiming he had had a heart attack or had surgery.

But on his visit to the front, he was shown barking orders at the aides-de-camp, who obediently wrote down his instructions.

He presented medals for heroism and told the troops, “I have faith in you.

“You still have many more glorious deeds ahead of you for the benefit of our fatherland, the Wehrmacht and the airborne troops.

“Congratulations. Take care.”

The Defense Ministry issued a statement after his visit, stating: “At the command posts of Russian units, Army General Sergei Shoigu listened to reports from the commanders on the current situation and actions of the Russian armed forces in the main theaters of operations.”

Russian warmonger Putin has yet to visit the war zone, unlike Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s risky trips.

Some analysts believe this is due to his own health issues limiting his public appearances.

However, the 69-year-old was spotted on a number of dates last week and will travel to Central Asia this week for meetings with leaders from the former Soviet Union.

The secret shoigu mission came amid speculation that the defense minister has lost control of war tactics to a series of generals, while Putin rotates his favorites and then grows fed up with them.

Colonel-General Sergei Surovikin reportedly replaced Alexandr Dvornikov, who had previously been ordered by Putin to salvage his failed war effort.

The British Ministry of Defense said of the changes: “For over thirty years, allegations of corruption and brutality have marked Surovikin’s career.”

Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov also seems to have failed.

A Western observer said, “Shoigu looks far more confident and active than we’ve seen throughout the war.”

Russian state television played up the Shoigu visit with “propagandist” Vladimir Solovyov, saying Ukrainians did not notice his arrival or attempted to hit him with a Tochka-U missile.

Solovyov told viewers: “[Russian defence minister] Sergey Shoigu arrived in the area of special military operation.

“Just look. Arrived calmly. Here is [Shoigu] – Well done, looks good. They spoke calmly – [no] Tochka-U missiles hit them.

“Quietly in the denazified, demilitarized, Nazi-liberated territories, [Shoigu] speaks to people. All is well. He gets there easily.

“That means everything is fine. And I think that soon we will calmly come to Kyiv, Odessa and Mykolayiv.”

Shoigu flew in on a military helicopter and paid special attention to organizing comprehensive support for hostilities, his ministry said.

He is also concerned with the “necessary living conditions for Russian military personnel at temporary deployment sites”.

Leading Putin enemy Leonid Nevzlin warned that Western weakness risked catastrophe for the world.

He said: “If the West does not solve the problem with Putin with military-political means in the near future, then it will win this war and set its own rules of the game worldwide.”
