Antonio Conte assesses Liverpool draw

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has now been open for three years – and the atmosphere there on Thursday is sure to be among the best in its young history.

Tottenham host bitter north London rivals Arsenal in a derby with so much at stake. The Gunners are four points clear of the Spurs and a win could guarantee Champions League football next season.

However, following a gallant 1-1 draw at Liverpool on Saturday, Antonio Conte and his players will be ready and confident to close the gap to a point, further increasing the pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side.

Conte reacts to Klopp criticism

Conte has hit back at criticism of his team’s style from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp after Saturday’s Premier League meeting between the two clubs. Klopp criticized Spurs’ defensive approach, who sat deep and counterattacked to contain the Reds’ firepower.

Asked about those comments, Conte insisted that if any side deserved to win the 1-1 draw at Anfield based on the chances they created, it was Tottenham. “We analyzed the game the day after and if there was one team that deserved the win it was Tottenham and not Liverpool,” he said.

“I think Klopp understood in that game that he gained a point and didn’t lose two points. Jurgen is intelligent, he was a bit frustrated after the game. At the same time, it’s important for us as top coaches to focus on that your team, not your opponents.”

Mourinho claims Tottenham exit

Former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho said he had no negative feelings towards Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy despite the nature of his departure.

Mourinho was sacked a week before last season’s Carabao Cup final after a challenging spell in north London. Tottenham had a strong start to the season, although their form faltered mid-season under the legendary Portuguese manager.

“I get weird when I talk to some English journalists at press conferences,” he said. “I always tell the joke about qualifying for them [Conference League] Finally, I hope I don’t get fired this time because that doesn’t happen to too many coaches.

“This time I can’t say I’m the privileged one because it happened to me. I have no regrets. I have no bad feelings. There are a lot of nice people at Tottenham and I wish them the best. Even to Mr Levy.”

Woodgate makes derby prediction

Ex-Spurs defender Jonathan Woodgate believes Spurs will be too good for Arsenal in Thursday’s crucial showdown between the sides. Although Tottenham lost ground to the Gunners after the Liverpool draw at the weekend, the committed and organized nature of their performance has given fans plenty of encouragement.

Woodgate believes that by replicating the counterattacking skills shown against the Reds, Conte’s team can damage Arsenal’s defence.

“I’m not saying that because I’m an ex-Spurs player, but because I’ve seen them away against Liverpool, but if they counter like they did against Liverpool, they’ll win against Arsenal,” he said. “Your counter is so aggressive and so good. I don’t see who can handle Son, Kane and Kulusevski. The power of these three players will be the driving force.”
