Antonio Conte has sent a message of ‘ambition’ to his players as they battle to qualify for next season Champions League.
Spurs sit in seventh place in Premier League table, three points out of Arsenal in fourth place even though the Gunners have one game ahead of their opponents, after their 2-0 win Brighton. And after that result, Conte noted a “major improvement” within his side as they chased a spot in the top four.
It came as a subtle behind-the-scenes change that would have cemented Conte’s position, while also showing he could stick with the club for a longer period of time. And Hugo Lloris has warned his team-mates ahead of their “terrible” Premier League encounter with West Ham on Sunday.

Conte’s message to the players
Antonio Conte has told his players to “have ambition in the right” as they push for Champions League spots.
Spurs beat Brighton 2-0 thanks to goals from Cristian Romero and Harry Kane to rekindle hope after a disappointing 3-2 loss to Manchester United last weekend. And Conte thinks his side are showing “great progress” as he talks about Tottenham’s chances of finishing in the top four.
Hints on Conte’s future
A subtle behind-the-scenes change at Tottenham suggests Antonio Conte could stick around for a longer time at the club, Mirror Football chief writer John Cross has claimed.
In an insight into the inner workings of the club, Cross writes that Spurs have allowed Jorge Mendes to “certainly have growing influence” over transfers.
With Conte suggesting the club need to match his own ambitions, Mendes’ involvement could be music to the Italian boss’s ears – and that means his place at The club has been consolidated.
