Antonio Conte on Spurs’ stomach problems

Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min has been snubbed by his own manager as the forward aims to lift the Premier League Golden Boot this season.

The South Korea international goes into Spurs’ final game of the season against Norwich, just a goal behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who has scored 21 goals for his club in the league this season. But it seems Conte has no intention of changing his plans to help the forward win the prestigious award.

It comes as Spurs abandoned the race to sign Sam Johnstone when his contract with West Bromwich Albion expires at the end of the season. And Tottenham’s food poisoning incident has been revisited following worrying reports about Spurs’ squad ahead of their crunch match on Sunday to complete Champions League qualification.

Conte sends Son snub

Antonio Conte will not give Son Heung-min a penalty on the last day of the season despite the striker being in the hunt for the Premier League Golden Boot.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah currently leads the way with 22 goals this season, although Son has scored 21 for Spurs, giving him a good chance of lifting the prestigious prize. But with Spurs also hoping to complete Champions League qualification and a top-four finish, Antonio Conte insists the team’s needs must come first.

And that’s why the Italian has insisted Harry Kane will remain the Spurs man to step in should the opportunity arise against Norwich.

Spurs are out of the free transfer race

Spurs are reportedly out of the race to sign Sam Johnstone when his contract expires at West Brom this summer.

The keeper was an option for Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici as Spurs look to rival Hugo Lloris next season. Spurs are believed to be looking to bring in a homegrown goalkeeper but could instead focus on Southampton’s Fraser Forster.

And that could give Erik ten Hag free rein to bring Johnstone to Manchester United instead.

Internal food poisoning drama

Fears have been raised over the well-being of the Spurs side ahead of their final game of the season – with the club facing a similar situation to that of the infamous 2005/06 campaign.

Tottenham went into the final weekend of the season in much the same position as they are this year, sitting one place ahead of Arsenal and knowing that if they could match their rivals’ result they would be in the Champions League. But a lasagna dinner the night before the game left several Martin Jol players suffering from the effects of food poisoning.

This meant a weakened side had to play West Ham, setting in motion one of the worst weekends that many Spurs fans could remember.
