Conte outlines what has changed for Tottenham since their last clash with Burnley

After Thursday night’s remarkable highs, Tottenham will be tasked with rebalancing again on Sunday.

A rousing 3-0 win over local rivals Arsenal kept their hopes of a top-four finish alive and increased the pressure on the Gunners in the final weeks of the season. A win for Spurs against relegation-threatened Clarets would put them above Arsenal, who would then be tasked with responding in Newcastle on Monday.

With just a point between the two sides in their last two games, tension and drama feel inevitable. Antonio Conte, the players and the fans have to buckle up.

Sessegnon for top 4 fight

Ryan Sessegnon has said Tottenham are ready to fight for a top-four result as Spurs prepare for the penultimate game of the Premier League season.

Sunday’s win over Burnley will add pressure on Arsenal ahead of their trip to the North East and the momentum feels like it’s with Conte’s team after their emphatic win on Thursday.

Sessegnon still believes the Gunners have the advantage, although he and his teammates relish the chance to hunt them down.

“Arsenal still have the advantage,” said the full-back. “You’re one point ahead. You could say the momentum is with us after Thursday’s great win, but that’s done now. We have to focus on Burnley. It’s probably the best way to just finish the Burnley game and get the win, hopefully, then it puts the pressure back on them on Monday night – that’s our next focus.

Arteta gives Conte a shy answer

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta would not be dragged if asked to respond to comments made by Conte after Thursday’s derby.

The Gunners head coach was angered by perceived wrong refereeing decisions during the game and afterwards the Tottenham boss said Arteta complained too much. The Arsenal head coach was taken directly to the comments, although he opted for a diplomatic response.

“I’m totally focused on Newcastle,” said Arteta. “If I say what I think, I’ll be banned for six months and want to be on the sidelines for our next game on Monday night.”

Merson changes his mind about Spurs

Former Arsenal striker Paul Merson believes Tottenham’s dominant display against Arsenal on Thursday will give the team the edge in the top four race.

What was expected to be a tense game between the local rivals ended up being a one-sided encounter with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and the opportunity being too much for the Gunners. Throughout the season, Merson has backed his old side to oust fourth-place Spurs, although what he saw at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium prompted a change of heart.

“I couldn’t believe what I saw,” he said of the game. “They have now opened the door to the top four and I would be shocked if Tottenham didn’t win their last two games. I can’t see Arsenal winning their last two games. Newcastle are in their last home game of the season.” a difficult game because they have to prove a point. Everton at the Emirates Stadium? You would take that. Everton have been getting results lately.”
