The 2022 Tour de France moves to the hills of southern France today for the final stage of competition before tomorrow’s procession to Paris. This stage 20 individual time trial to the clifftop village of Rocamadour begins in Lacapelle-Marival, a small town known for its chateau.

The track is a 41km road that contains some bumps and gives some scope for time gains, but it would take some really dramatic things to see the podium positions shift now. Jonas Vingegaard is three minutes clear of reigning champion Tadej Pogacar on his way to his first Tour de France crown and realistically the Dane only needs to avoid a fall to secure the yellow jersey. Likewise, Geraint Thomas is three minutes clear of fourth, France’s David Gaudu, and will secure his third career podium at the Tour de France if he crosses the course safely.

The riders will start in reverse order, so Australian sprinter Caleb Ewan will be the first to contest this time trial as the bearer of the race Lantern Rouge, starting around 12pm in the UK. Stage 1 time trial winner Yves Lampaert starts at 12:39, time trial champion Filippo Ganna at 13:05, favorite Wout van Aert starts at 15:16 while the yellow jersey last starts at 16:00.

Bauke Mollema is a bit off the pace and is around third place on this stage.

Back at the starting gate we only have a handful of riders ahead of us. Yellow jersey Jonas Vingegaard gets ready on his warm-up bike as Nairo Quintana rolls down the ramp to finish in the top five in the standings.

Bauke Mollema is also doing very well out there and the Belgian is second to Van Aert at the first checkpoint. Stefan Kung is approaching the goal…

Meanwhile, a curious one: a UAE Emirates spare wheel fell off the car’s roof rack outside at the track. The incident did not affect the driver the car was following, American Brandon McNulty.

At the front, Stefan Kung has fallen behind from Ganna’s time and he’s chasing the top 5 at best. Back at the starting gate, Tom Pidcock rolls down the ramp to begin his run.

As Stefan Kung approaches half-time, at the starting gate, Wout van Aert’s green jersey prepares for the start. Can he challenge Filippo Ganna’s lead time? He’s been pushing himself tremendously on almost every stage of this tour, so no one would blame him for having heavy legs – on the other hand, Van Aert doesn’t seem to have really heavy legs.
