Chatham in Kent is already cursed with a somewhat seedy reputation as ‘home of the chavs’, but now it’s also been dubbed ‘the sloppiest place in Britain’.

A British town nicknamed “Home of the Chavs” has now been dubbed “the sloppiest place in Britain”.

Last year, two garbage collectors were filmed fighting with the public, which resulted in one of the workers being beaten unconscious.

The two rubbish collectors threw punches and threats at shocked passers-by in Chatham, Kent.

Now, according to new research, people in Chatham, Kent, are the least likely to cycle or walk.

The Medway City is famous for its residents’ love of Burberry clothing, tracksuits, baseball caps and “blingy” jewelry.

Chatham resident Adrian Richardson, 34, said: “We’re a bunch of slobs.

“Everywhere you go you see people in muffin tops and bingo wings, and it’s a rare sight indeed when you see someone jogging.”

Chaos like TV’s Wayne and Waynetta, played by Harry Enfield and Kathy Burke, are also common in Doncaster, where talkative Jeremy Clarkson was born.

It was second on the list with Scunthorpe in Lincs, Gillingham in Kent and Lincoln not far behind The day star.

At the other end of the scale, people in Southport, Merseyside were ranked as the fittest.

The study looked at data from the hiking and cycling charity Sustrans.

The financial experts from Forbes Advisor combined them with details of green spaces, gyms, leisure centers and bike routes in each area.

A spokesman for Forbes Advisor said: “Chatham is the worst place in the UK for sports lovers.”

It scored just 14 out of 100 on the Fitness Index – the lowest of any city.

Southport was rated an impressive 80 out of 100.

Forbes Advisor’s Kevin Pratt said, “If you live in an area that has the spaces and facilities that allow you to get a lot of exercise, that’s something to celebrate.”
