In a statement, Newman said: “Recently, I’ve found myself shrinking. The people that I had towered over are now taller than me.
“Turns out, my neck was broken.”
Newman, who has also created music for Monsters Inc and Monsters University, said he had a “successful” surgery but he had to prolong his recovery.
“The doctor said I wasn’t ready to go on tour,” he added.
“I am really looking forward to going to Europe to perform. I miss a great performance and I look forward to a time when I can come.
“I’m sorry I won’t see you this time, but I’ll see you soon.”
