Rachel Stevens was just 19 years old when she suddenly became one of S Club 7’s biggest stars.

Now as she celebrates turning 44, we’ve taken a look back at her amazing journey – one that saw her sell 16 million records with the group, before embarking on a solo career.

But the public is also enamored with her romantic life as well as her impressive musical talent – and passionately follows her romance with actor Jeremy Edwards, 51.

The couple got engaged after a year and a half – when Jeremy proposed to Rachel on Valentine’s Day in 2002 during a romantic meal at The Dorchester.

Rachel was on the moon – after admitting she’d previously liked her fiance from the moment she first saw him hit the screen as Kurt Benson in Hollyoaks.

“I really didn’t know he was going to do it and was thrilled to the pieces,” she said in an interview at the time.

“We are both very happy.”

But tragically, Jeremy’s life was marred by tragedy after the gruesome death of his Holby co-star, Laura Sadler, who fell 40 feet from the balcony while watching the sunrise at the park. her boyfriend’s house in Holland Park, London.

The 22-year-old actress suffered a severe head injury and died in hospital five days later, leaving Jeremy, then 31, devastated by the sudden death of a close friend.

“Everybody on the cast is absolutely devastated and is asking the same question, ‘Why her? “,” he told the BBC.

“You can’t meet a sweeter, more beautiful, more amazing girl. She’s the best and even my actor friends who only played one episode with her were appalled. She’s just the cutest little thing.”

He struggled to rehab, turning to alcoholism, which affected his relationship with Rachel.

Speaking frankly, he told Heat magazine: “It was a difficult time for me. After Laura’s death, I was really confused. I drank a lot and was severely depressed.

“It really shook me. Losing such a close friend pushed me off the rails and sadly Rachel got caught up in my mess again.

“That’s when she confronted me about my problems and we agreed to take a break.”

After a month of no contact, Jeremy said he realized his actions were causing [him] lose” and try to mend their relationship.

“Rachel means the world to me. I needed a serious reality check and that’s what I got,” he added.

However, wedding plans have been put on hold, with Jeremy saying he needs to “grow up a bit”, while Rachel remains super busy with S Club 7.

The couple later split in 2004, with Jeremey later expressing regret over losing the £2 million they were offered to photograph their wedding.

Speaking on the Soap From the Box podcast, he said: “We were offered stupid money to sell our wedding, honeymoon and first child photos, and I turned it down. just thought, ‘This is ridiculous’.

“I wish I had done that. I could make more money and have a little more privacy. I would live in the Bahamas or something.”

But Rachel has since found love with her childhood sweetheart, whom she later married and had children with.

In a new podcast, Rachel spoke affectionately about her partner Alex Bourne, 44, whom she married in 2009 in a lavish Mayfair ceremony, after casually ‘running into him repeatedly’ .

They first met and dated when they were 12, but grew apart during their teenage years and broke up.

On Roxie Nafousi’s podcast The Moments That Made Me, she talked about how their encounters felt ‘as if they were drawn together’.

She said: ‘Then we dated again when we were like 16 and then again when we were 18 and then we broke up, you know, obviously I went and did my job. He went and did his thing.

‘Years later I randomly went to Selfridges and he walked in and we ran into each other.

‘We’re both in our late 20s and weirdly he said when he walked in, I knew I was going to see you, he knew he was going to see me…’

She added: ‘It was lovely to see him as an old friend and from that point on we just randomly ran into each other.

‘His relationship with his girlfriend ended and then I went to LA and he was an actor at the time so he went to LA too.

‘We then mended our relationship again!

‘So it was a pretty random meeting and then just randomly bumping into each other, like we were pulled back together. “

She explained: ‘It was lovely to see him as an old friend and from then on we just happened to run into each other.

‘His relationship with his girlfriend ended and then I went to LA and he was an actor at the time so he went to LA too.

‘We then mended our relationship again!

‘So it was a pretty random encounter and then just by chance, it was like we were pulled back together. “

Their wedding was held at the luxury Claridge’s Hotel in London and Rachel walked down the aisle to watch her own S Club 7 hit ‘I’ll Never Had A Dream Come True’.

The bride and groom spent an epic day spent with their guests, which included ice sculptures, orchids, a grand piano and a ballroom covered in silk.

Star guests include Coronation Street Kate Ford – known for playing Tracey Barlow – and former Strictly Dance Game judge Arlene Phillips, as well as former Dance Games dancers.

The happy couple have since welcomed two children – daughters Amelie, 11, and Minnie, eight.
