Train line blocked near Uckfield after train hit group of deer

A railway line was blocked after a freight train ran into a group of deer.

The incident happened between Uckfield and Tunbridge Wells at around 9.30pm last night.

Southern Rail was forced to close one of its Uckfield services as a result.

A Southern Rail spokesman said: “Unfortunately a freight train struck a number of deer near Eridge last night around 9.30pm.

“The freight train’s rear engine failed to restart, meaning we had to end one of our Uckfield services at Crowborough while the line was being cleared.

“We have taxis available from Crowborough and passengers whose journeys are delayed by 15 minutes or more can apply for delay reimbursement compensation through our website.”
