Train services in Sussex have been disrupted as the line was blocked by flooding

A railway line was blocked by flooding overnight, causing disruption to commuters and train passengers.

Heavy rain has flooded the route between Lewes and Haywards Heath, with services between Hastings, Eastbourne and London Victoria operating via Brighton due to the disruption.

Plumpton and Cooksbridge are also not served by London-bound trains.

Southern Rail is urging commuters to review their journey before traveling and to say they are working with Network Rail to fix the disruption as soon as possible.

Motorists have been urged to be careful on the roads after rescue workers rescued more than a dozen vehicles from floodwaters overnight.

Passengers in 20 cars were rescued when heavy rain caused flooding along the A27 last night, with fire services encouraging motorists not to drive into deep flood water after a series of incidents.
