Trans Pride returns to Brighton today: what you need to know

TRANS Pride Brighton is back in person today for the first time in three years.

The transgender community prepares for a march through the city, followed by an afternoon of celebrations.

Sarah Savage, CEO of Trans Pride Brighton said: “We’ve been online for the last two years which has been a change and a challenge.

“It’s been great to continue to show support for the transgender community, but as we come out of lockdowns it’s amazing and encouraging to be able to offer an event for everyone to come and reconnect.

“Trans Pride is about community, about making friends and connecting with family, and that can only get better in person.”

The march starts at 12 noon from Jubilee Square near the library and participants walk down to the sea and end at Brunswick Square where the party will take place.

A shorter walk starts at 12:40pm from the Metropole Hotel for those with limited accessibility.

Trans Pride Brighton is the first and largest Trans Pride in Europe, with the first event taking place in 2013.

This year will be the tenth annual event but only the eighth in-person event due to the disruptions caused by the pandemic.

Travis Alabanza, a trans performer and author, will be leading the park event in Brunswick Square.

Sarah Savage added, “I fondly remember Travis speaking at the protest march in 2019. It was one of my favorite moments, so I’m really looking forward to Travis’ set.

“It’s an honor to have someone so amazing and empowering to come and share their story and accomplishment.”

Travis Albanza said: “I’ve been with Trans Pride Brighton all these years and it’s always a pleasure to come back.

“Right now the transgender community is faced with such extortionate and unnecessary targets, so we need days to come together to protest and celebrate ourselves.”
